Obama says US should strike Syria, will seek congressional vote

LEGAL AWARENESS WELFARE (LAW):

An individual country or a group of countries can voice against any other country government that commits cruel injustice on its people, e.g.it kills its civilians applying chemical weapons etc.

Further to that they (the individual agitating country or group of countries) can approach the UN with the request to take necessary lawful action against the government concerned that uses chemical weapons on its civilians, which is an inhuman deed, according to international law.

Whereas, direct attack on that country without consent  and permission of the UN seems and sounds committing a sort of severe crime against humanity, as that it happened in the past terrific incident like Iraq attack that massacred lives and economies there massively and after effect of that would continue for generations, which is known as terrific to whole world  (global) humans.

Secretary of State John Kerry makes a statement about Syria at the State Department in Washington, Aug. 30, 2013.

LEGAL AWARENESS WELFARE (LAW):

Countries that realise Syrian government has been applying chemical weapons on its own civilians or else more such misdeeds, they should raise their voices against Syrian government and ask the UNO to do needful as this organisation was established, meant and empowered to exercise its authentic power whereever and whenever needed.

On the contrary, if any  individual country or group of countries would assign itself or themselves for the same nature job that may be a sort of by-pass action causing severe complication for UNO to maintain peace and harmony in that region as in the past we have observed and experienced a number of mistakes committed on such similar situations those of which ultimately resulted to severe ruin and loss of lives, economies and haves of those affected regions.

Notwithstanding, UNO is believed universally recognised as having authenticity and authority for application of it's power to intervene in affairs of member or non-member nations / countries of the world.

Hence any individual country's intervention on its own on he other country would be at its own risk and consequences asper international law so far known to me.

More fresh fruit deters diabetes; juice boosts risk

HEALTH AWARENESS WELFARE (HAW):

ACCORDING TO A RESEARCH REPORT IT IS BELIEVED THAT EATING WHOLE OF SOME SPECIFIC QUALITY FRUITS ARE MORE BENEFICIAL FOR KEEPING FIT THAN DRINKING THEIR JUICE.

- A.R.Shams's Reflection - Series of Press and Online Publications - Moral Messages for Humanity Worldwide - http://arshamssreflection.blogspot.com/

                    ********************************************************

// PARIS: Eating more whole fresh fruit, especially blueberries, grapes, apples and pears, is linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, but drinking more fruit juice has the opposite effect, says a study.

British, US and Singaporean researchers pored over data from three big health investigations that took place in the United States, spanning a quarter of a century in all.

More than 187,000 nurses and other professional caregivers were enrolled. Their health was monitored over the following years, and they regularly answered questionnaires on their eating habits, weight, smoking, physical activity and other pointers to lifestyle.

Around 6.5 percent of the volunteers developed diabetes during the studies. People who ate at least two servings each week of certain whole fruits, especially blueberries, grapes and apples, reduced their risk of Type 2 diabetes by as much as 23 percent compared to those who ate less than one serving per month.

"Our findings provide novel evidence suggesting certain fruits may be especially beneficial for lower diabetes risk," said Qi Sun, an assistant professor of nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.

On the other hand, those who consumed one or more servings of fruit juice each day saw their risk of the disease increase by as much as 21 percent.

Swapping three servings of juice per week for whole fruits resulted in a seven-percent reduction in risk, although there was no such difference with strawberries and cantaloupe melon. The paper, published on Friday by the British Medical Journal (BMJ), says further work is needed to explore this "significant" difference.

It speculates that, even if the nutritional values of whole fruit and fruit juice are similar, the difference lies with the fact that one food is a semi-solid and the other a liquid.

"Fluids pass through the stomach to the intestine more rapidly than solids even if nutritional content is similar," says the paper.

"For example, fruit juices lead to more rapid and larger changes in serum [blood] levels of glucose and insulin than whole fruits."

The study also points to evidence that some kinds of fruit have a beneficial effect for health.

Berries and grapes, for instance, have compounds called anthocyanins which have been found to lower the risk of heart attacks.

But, say the authors, how or even whether this also applies to diabetes risks is for now unclear.

The investigation looked at data from the Nurses' Health Study, which ran from 1984-2008; the Nurses' Health Study II (1991-2009); and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (1986-2008).

Ten kinds of fruit were used in the questionnaire: grapes or raisins; peach, plums or apricots; prunes; bananas; cantaloupe melon; apples or pears; oranges; grapefruit; strawberries; and blueberries.

The fruit juices identified in the questionnaire were apple, orange, grapefruit and "other."//

Pakistan warns of polio outbreak after fresh cases

HEALTH AWARENESS WELFARE (HAW):

// MIRAMSHAH: Health officials in Pakistan on Wednesday warned of a serious polio outbreak after the disease was detected in 16 children in a tribal district where militant groups have banned vaccination.

Doctor Khayal Mir Jan, the top health official in Pakistan's militant-infested North Waziristan tribal district, on the Afghan border, told AFP that thousands of children were at risk.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where the highly infectious, crippling disease remains endemic. Infections shot up from a low of 28 in 2005 to almost 200 last year.

“Polio virus has been detected in 16 children since
the Taliban ban,” Jan told AFP. “We are waiting for the result of the
stool samples of another 42 children suspected of having the disease.”

Local warlord Hafiz Gul Bahadur banned polio vaccinations in Waziristan in June 2012, alleging the campaign was a cover for espionage.

Bahadur, who is allied with Afghan Taliban fighting US-led troops across the border, said the ban would remain until the US stops drone attacks in the tribal regions. North Waziristan has borne the brunt of the strikes.

Health officials said the disease is in danger of becoming an epidemic and oiced fears that it could spread to the neighbouring districts if vaccination was not begun immediately.

“Every day we are receiving children with polio, we will have to start an anti-polio campaign, otherwise it's becoming epidemic,” Jan told AFP.

Most of the children affected were under five years old. Jan said nine cases were detected in Mir Ali town while seven were detected in Miramshah, the main town of North Waziristan.

An administrative official in the area said efforts were underway to talk to militant groups and support from Islamic scholars had also been sought.

Officials said more than 240,000 in North and South Waziristan were at risk due the ban and have not been administered polio drops since the ban.

A World Health Organization official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed: “Scores of polio cases have been reported in North Waziristan.” “Several other children have also been paralysed in North Waziristan but we are waiting for their test results as we don't know what virus paralysed them,” the official said.//

Experimental drug 'cures' hepatitis C in small trials

MEDICAL AWARENESS WELFARE ORGANISATION (MAWO):

// WASHINGTON: An experimental drug combination cured 70 percent of patients with hepatitis C in early trials, offering hope of a simpler remedy for the chronic liver disease, US researchers said Tuesday.

The phase II trial described in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) studied the effectiveness and safety of an experimental drug, sofosbuvir, taken with the licensed antiviral drug ribavirin.

The drugs were administered orally, an improvement over the current treatment which involves weekly injections with interferon-alpha and can cause depression, flu-like symptoms and anemia.

Ten patients with early to moderate liver disease were treated with 400 milligrams daily of sofosbuvir and weight-based doses of ribavirin for six months.

All nine who completed the regimen had no virus detectable 12 weeks after therapy ended. No hepatitis C was found even 24 weeks after finishing therapy.

According to study co-author Shyamasundaran Kottilil of the National Institutes of Health, a patient is considered cured of hepatitis C if no virus is detectable for 12 weeks after the therapy ends.

A second study group of 50 people were divided into two groups to test weight-based versus low fixed doses of the experimental drug, sofosbuvir, manufactured by Gilead Sciences in California.

"We saw an overall cure rate of about 70 percent using regimens that did not include interferon," said Dr. Kottilil. "This is an encouraging result."

The 60 patients studied all had genotype-1 HCV, with varying levels of liver disease. Fifty of the 60 were African-American men.

The combination regimen was deemed safe and well tolerated, with side effects including mild to moderate headache, anemia, fatigue and nausea.

Chronic hepatitis C, which is passed through contact with contaminated blood affects more than three million Americans. It is a leading cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer, killing about 15,000 people every year in the United States.

"There is a pressing need for hepatitis C virus treatments that are less burdensome to the patient, have fewer side effects and take less time to complete," said study co-author Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.//

"Building on previous work, this trial provides compelling evidence that interferon-free regimens can be safe and effective."

THE DRUG SOFOSBUVIR WAS ADMINISTERED TO A NUMBER OF PATIENTS WITH HEPATITIS C AND WAS FOUND GIVING POSITIVE RESULT TO MANY OF THEM. ITS A GOOD NEWS FOR PATIENTS WITH HEPATITIS C, AS PER RESEACH REPORT.

// DAYTON: Relatives of a couple who died at a nursing home 11 hours apart on the same day said their love story's ending reflects their devotion over 65 years of marriage.

Harold and Ruth Knapke died in their shared room on Aug. 11, days before their 66th anniversary, The Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/16KBNAJ ) reported.

He was 91, she was 89. Their daughters said they believe their father willed himself to stay by his wife's side despite failing health until they could take the next step in their journey together.

He went first _ his children saw it as his ``final act of love'' _ and she followed. ``We believe he wanted to accompany her out of this life and into the next one, and he did,'' daughter Margaret Knapke said.

The couple had known each other as children and began their courtship as pen pals while Harold, known as ``Doc,'' served in the Army during World War II. Ruth would later joke: ``I let him chase me until I caught him!''

Her husband became a teacher, coach and athletic director at Fort Recovery Schools, the newspaper said.

They raised six children while looking after each other with a devotion that didn't seem to diminish.

A photo taken this summer shows him lying in a bed, arm stretched through a guardrail to hold her hand, as she leans in to press the top of her head to his.

When she was ailing, he blessed her each night with holy water, daughter Pat Simon said.

The Knapkes had a joint funeral Mass, with granddaughters carrying Ruth's casket and grandsons carrying Harold's casket.

The cemetery procession stopped at the farm house where the couple had lived, and the current owners surprised the family by flying a flag at half-staff to honor the longtime loves.

``It is really just a love story,'' said Carol Romie, another daughter. ``They were so committed and loyal and dedicated, they weren't going to go anywhere without the other one.''//

Jazz legend Marian McPartland dead at 95

ENTERTAINMENT:

WASHINGTON:Marian McPartland, a jazz pianist who was a glittering fixture in her musical genre over a career spanning six decades, has died at the age of 95, her record label said.

English-born McPartland also hosted a program on National Public Radio called "Piano Jazz," which at more than 30 years was the longest running cultural program on the popular US radio station, Concord Music Group said.

McPartland died of natural causes at her home in Long Island, New York on Tuesday night, NPR said.

She recorded over 50 albums and the honors she received included the George Foster Peabody Award, the National Music Council's American Eagle Award and a GRAMMY Trustee's Award for lifetime achievement.

On her radio program, she interviewed practically every major jazz musician of the post World War-II era, NPR said.

She told the station in 2005 that her interest in music started when she was a young girl, after hearing her mother play piano.

"From that moment on, I don't remember ever not playing piano, day and night, wherever I was," she said.

"At my aunt's house, at kindergarten -- wherever they had a piano, I played it. Of course, on the BBC they played all the hits from over here [in the US]. They played them, I heard them and I learned them," McPartland said.

Birds sense speed limits on roads: study

AMAZING, INTERESTING & KNOWLEDGEABLE:

OTTAWA: Birds sense posted speed limits on roads and react to avoid collisions, according to a study out Wednesday.

Researchers said birds appear to have adapted to the local speed limits as a feature of their environment, such as the risk of predators.

Strict enforcement of speed limits could therefore significantly help with conservation, especially for endangered species in populated areas, Pierre Legagneux, a behavioral ecologist at the University of Quebec in Rimouski, told AFP.

"I realized that the birds were not reacting to the actual speed of my car, but to the average speed of cars on these roads, to the posted speed limits," the lead researcher said in a telephone interview.

The birds "associate road sections with speed limits as a way to assess collision risk," he added in the study published in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters.

"So strictly enforcing speed limits could reduce bird collisions."

Legagneuxsaid he was tracking ducks in western France for other research when hecame across a bird on a road that forced him to stop to avoid it, and caused him to wonder how birds think about cars and avoid collisions.

Legagneux began studying bird responses during the long drive home from his laboratory in a small white Peugeot 205, a route that took him through croplands, forests and small villages between November 2006 and November2007.

With colleague Simon Ducatez, he monitored and analyzed the
responses of 21 species of birds on roads with posted speed limits of
20, 50, 90 and 110 kilometers per hour (12 to 68 miles per hour).

The process involved noting when a bird took off to avoid his approaching car and how long it took the bird to reach its final position on the ground. (AFP)

 LEGAL AWARENESS WELFARE (LAW):
Right, yet it’s not an individuals job to get hold a terrorist that concerns the government and its forces etc. Furthermore, Mr. Zamurud Khan isn't believed to have such extra-ordinary training to do the job that he assigned himself to perform taking a big risk on his own risk and consequences. However, it could be informed later that the government had its strategic secret mission to arrest the culprit alive and unhurt too (if possible). But Mr. Zamurud's sudden intervention seems to have caused a severe distraction in the government forces' aims and objectives planned and actionised were distracted, stumbled and went in vain.

ENTERTAINMENT + LEGAL AWARENESS WELFARE (LAW):

// LOS ANGELES: ‘The Butler,’ about an African American who watches civil rights history in the making as a White House butler, debuted at the topof the North American box office, estimates showed Sunday.

Directedby Lee Daniels and starring Forrest Whitaker in the title role, the historical drama pulled in over $25 million over the weekend, industry tracker Exhibitor Relations said.

Young Australians getting fatter: study

HEALTH AWARENESS WELFARE (LAW):
// SYDNEY: Young Australians have a reputation for being fit and enjoying a sporty, outdoorsy lifestyle, but research released Monday found they are stacking on more weight than any other age group.
The alarming findings of the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study have raised concerns that by putting on so much weight in their 20s and 30s, Australians are at more risk of developing diabetes in middle age.
"The trend for greater weight gain amongst people aged 25-34 is very concerning and suggests Australia still does not recognise the serious health risks associated with being overweight or obese," said study co-chief investigator Jonathan Shaw.
"The health and well-being of a whole generation of young Australians is being compromised by a lifestyle rich in energy-dense foods and low on physical activity."
The study, which has tracked 11,000 respondents across the nation over 12 years, found that for all ages the average weight gain was 2.6 kilograms (5.7 pounds).
But those aged 25-34 when they first interviewed for the study in 1999 or 2000, had stacked on the most since then, with an average 6.7 kilogram gain.
"We've seen that over 12 years people are, on average, continuing to put on weight," said Shaw, who called for tough decisions from governments to improve health outcomes.
"On average 5.3 centimetres (2.1 inches) extra waist circumference across the whole population but particularly so in younger adults."
Waistlines for the original 25-34 group stretched 6.6 centimetres over the period.

The study revealed major discrepancies between participant's perceptions about how long they spent sitting and the actual amount of time in which they were sedentary.
Participants self-reported that they spent an average of 200 minutes a day sitting but measurement devices worn by them recorded an average 500 minutes a day spent sitting down.
The study is the largest Australian longitudinal population-based study of its kind and has tracked the 11,000 respondents for more than a decade to determine how many of the participants develop diabetes, obesity, kidney and heart disease.
The latest data, taken in 2011-12, found that living in the most socially disadvantaged areas doubled the risk of developing diabetes while the prevalence of depression was much higher in obese people. (AFP) //

CREATIVE LIVING AWARENESS WELFARE (CLAW):
It is pessimistic to think about old age that one becomes dull brained at his or her later ages beyond 65 because it has been observed that an optimistic and active fellow who continues working dynamically lives healthier, happier and lengthier than his or her counterpart, that is, the one who is basically pessimistic, inactive and less hopeful about living and letting live becomes sick in early ages and hence he or she lives unhealthy, unhappy and a short-span life.
Most renowned scientists, poets, philosophers, politicians, specialists (in any field) rulers and their likewise personalities excelled in their later ages superseding many younger ones, examples of which are there many.
Therefore, a dynamically active person having optimistic approach towards life and living keeps on superseding his or her counterpart, the pessimistic and inactive one. Hence the more the former one grows older, the more active, dependable, trustworthy and multiples of their likewise qualities grow in him or her along with his or her aging.

Nepal steps up poultry cull to combat bird flu

HEALTH AWARENESS WELFARE (HAW):

// KATHMANDU: Nepal's government on Thursday ordered health workers to cull half a million chickens to combat a major bird flu outbreak on the outskirts of the capital Kathmandu.

The orders come after tens of thousands of birds have already been killed in what government officials describe as one of the Himalayan nation's worst outbreaks of avian flu.

Some 62 cases of bird flu have been recorded at 250 poultry farms in three districts in the past few weeks, officials said.

Officials at Directorate of Animal Health said the government ordered the cull to be stepped up in the wake of a failure to control the H5N1 virus after imposing a week-long ban on the sales of poultry products.

"We could not control it (the outbreak) because the supply of poultry products continued despite the ban," the directorate's spokesman, Narayan Ghimire, told AFP.

"Now, the poultry farmers have joined us in our battle. We are sure we will control it," he said.

Nepal's first outbreak of bird flu was in January 2009.

H5N1, a common strain of bird flu, has killed 377 people globally between 2003 until July 5 this year, according to the World Health Organisation.

No human deaths from bird flu have been reported in Nepal..........//
