The court has also issued arrest warrants for the other accused in the case

Judge Tariq Anwar Kasi of the Quetta ATC conducted the hearing of Akbar Bugti murder case today. During today’s proceedings, the judge inquired about the progress in thecase. The lawyer representing Pervez Musharraf requested the judge to provide exemption to his client from appearing in the court.

any case.

At the occasion, the investigating team apprised the court that two accused, Shaukat Aziz and Owais Ahmed Ghani are residing abroad. However, the court instructed the team to fulfill all the required legal procedures to bring back the culprits and issued the arrest warrants of the three accused once again.

The hearing was, then, adjourned till September 30.//

47 die of MERS virus in Saudi Arabia: health ministry

HEALTH AWARENESS WELFARE (HAW): Healthfulness is a great blessing

// RIYADH:Another three people have died in Saudi Arabia after contracting the MERS coronavirus, the health ministry said Sunday, bringing the kingdom's total fatalities of the SARS-like virus to 47.

A Saudi man, aged 74, died in the western city of Medina after being in contact with an infected person, the ministry said on its website.

A 56-year-old foreigner, who worked in the health sector, also died in
Medina, while another Saudi, aged 53, who suffered chronicdiseases,
died in Riyadh, the ministry added.

The health authority also announced five new cases of infection of the coronavirus, including an 18-year-old Saudi man, and a three-year-old girl in Hafr al-Baten, in the northeast, who contracted the virus after being in contact with an infected person. The three others are all Saudi nationals.

Saudi Arabia is the country worst hit by MERS, which has killed 47 in the kingdom. On Friday the World Health Organisation said the virus had killed 52 people worldwide. Saudi authorities said 96 people have been infected in the kingdom, out of a global figure of 110.

Experts are struggling to understand MERS -- Middle East Respiratory Syndrome --for which there is still no vaccine and which has an extremely high fatality rate of more than 51 percent.

It is considered a cousin of the SARS virus that erupted in Asia in 2003 and infected 8,273 people, nine percent of whom died.

Like SARS, MERS is thought to have jumped from animals to humans, and it shares the former's flu-like symptoms -- but differs by also causing kidney failure.//

E-cigarettes as effective as patches to stop smoking

HEALTH AWARENESS WELFARE (HAW):
E-cigarettes to stop tobacco smoking!

// PARIS:Tobacco-free electronic cigarettes are as effective as nicotine patches in weaning smokers off their habit, but both techniques are only modestly successful, a study said on Saturday.

It is the first trial to compare the increasingly popular "e-cigarette" -- a plastic tube which heats a liquid to an inhalable vapour -- against nicotine patches as an anti-smoking aid.

Researchers in Auckland, New Zealand, recruited 657 smokers who wanted to quit, and assigned them randomly to three groups.

Two groups of around 290 people were given a 13-week supply of either patches or e-cigarettes that delivered nicotine vapour.
Another 73 were given e-cigarettes without nicotine.

Six months later, the volunteers were then questioned, and their breath was analysed for carbon monoxide telltales of smoking, to rate their success in giving up tobacco.

The success rate among the nicotine e-cigarettes was 7.3 percent, compared with 5.8 percent in the patch group and 4.1 percent in the non-nicotine e-cigarette group.

None of the e-cigarette users fell ill from using the product, but the
researchers stress that its long-term safety -- an issue that has
emerged in the European Union which plans to class e-cigs as medicinal products -- remains unclear.

"E-cigarettes, with or without nicotine, were modestly effective at helping smokers to quit, with similar achievement of abstinence as with nicotine patches, and few adverse events," says the study, published by The Lancet.

But, it adds: "Uncertainty exists about the place of e-cigarettes in tobacco control, and more research is urgently needed to clearly establish their overall benefits and harms."

The probe, led by Chris Bullen at the University of Auckland, was presented this weekend at a conference of the European Respiratory Society in Barcelona, Spain, The Lancet said.//

// JUNEAU:A house cat in Alaska learned the hard way not to chase mosquitoes after following one out a window and falling 11 stories.
The 2-year-old cat, named Wasabi, survived but suffered a fractured leg and broken bones.

The Juneau Empire reports the cat was chasing the mosquito Monday in her owners' apartment in Juneau, about two blocks from the state Capitol.

The mosquito escaped out a window, and Wasabi went after it. Stephanie Gustafson says her mother watched the female cat fall.
Wasabi landed in a parking lot, and Gustafson found her huddled nearby, bloody and wet from rain.

The cat underwent an operation, and has pins and wires holding together her fractured leg and broken bones in a joint. She also is sporting a pink cast.

Gustafson says Wasabi is expected to heal in about six weeks. //

Peking duck not all it's quacked up to be

AMAZING & INTERESTING! > BUT WHY SO HIGH ENTRY FEES!<

// BEIJING:China's first authentic version of the giant Rubber Duck that has made a splash around the world and inspired fakes across the country made its debut Friday -- but some complained that visitors had to pay to see it.
The inflatable yellow bird -- which has made appearances from Australia to South America since 2007 -- attracted huge attention in China after it arrived in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour to rave reviews, bobbing up and down in front of the city's distinctive urban skyline.
Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman promotes the oversized toy's universal appeal on his website as knowing "no frontiers" and "soft, friendly and
suitable for all ages".

But the artwork took a commercial turn in China, with property developers setting up imitations in Hangzhou, Tianjin and other cities, that was criticised by the ruling Communist Party's mouthpiece the People's Daily.
Previous displays of the Rubber Duck have normally been free, but the moneymaking continued with the authentic creation in Beijing as it went on show at the International Garden Expo on the outskirts of the city, which costs 100 yuan ($16) to enter.
After a few weeks the duck will shift to the Summer Palace, a tourist spot that also charges an entrance fee.
Expo official Qiao Xiaopeng said there were currently no plans to offer a free day but that the vast grounds -- spanning 246 hectares (600 acres) -- could accommodate large numbers of visitors.
The first crowds were small on Friday. Viewers meandered a pathway on the bank of a river where the duck floated before a backdrop of flowers and greenery spelling out in large letters: "International Garden Expo".
Kang Jing, 26, said she thought viewing the duck should be free, at least for Beijing residents.
"That would let more people come see it, which would be better," she said. The duck was not completely inflated by the time of its debut, its beak somewhat limp and body tilting forward."It should be fatter and cuter," said Kang.
The duck looked smaller than she expected, Kang added -- even though the Beijing version was made to be 18 metres (59 feet) high, compared with 16.5 metres in Hong Kong.//
Most ducks have ranged from five to 15 metres although one in France reached 26 metres, according to Hofman's website.
Wu Yiying, 26, said the entrance fee was reasonable because she could see the expo and photograph the real duck.
The fakes were good "for people in other places who can't come to Beijing or Hong Kong, if they really want to see it," she said.
"But ultimately the designer designed this and we should respect what he created."
A well-known restaurant, Quanjude, sought to take advantage of the
installation by using it to advertise its own showpiece, Peking duck.

A sign at the expo entrance showed the artwork in a chef's hat with the words, "Come see the big yellow duck and eat a Quanjude duck
burger".(AFP)

// SACRAMENTO:Their egg-laying days behind them, some 1,200 Northern California chickens are heading for a cozy retirement on the East Coast, where they will live outside of cages and have plenty of room to spread their
wings.

The Sacramento Bee reports that an anonymous $50,000
donation is funding Operation Chicken Airlift, which will send the hens
on a cross-country cargo flight to upstate New York on Wednesday
evening.

From there the white Leghorn chickens will be ferried to
different sanctuaries. Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary in New York,
where 200 of the birds will end up, is providing perches, grass and even
a wooded area where they can roam.

Laying hens are generally too lean for human consumption and are usually slaughtered after they stop providing eggs.//
